Bacopa Compact
They are widely distributed extending from tropics to subtropics. The lemon Bacopa (Bacopa Caroliniana) as it is popularly known can give off lemony scent when the leaves or stem are crushed. The emergent leaves are fleshy and green with hairs underneath. When grown submersed, the leaves become translucent and attain a bronze hue under high light conditions. This plant develops blue bell shaped flowers at the axes of the leaves. Other species, Bacopa Monniera has wedge shaped non-hairy light green leaves, which are smaller than that of the former. They develop pinkish flowers at the leaf node. Bacopa Myriophylloides has needle shaped leaves in whorls, which are 0.3-0.6 CM long and up to 0.1 CM broad. The aerial leaves are dark green and tough textured while the submersed ones are pale green and linear. All these species are undemanding and can thrive in any type of water and substrate. Bacopa Monniera can thrive well in hard to very hard water, if it can be supplied adequately with CO2.
