This plant is tropical mainly from Malaysia. They are grown for its attractive foliage. The shape and size of the leaves vary. Leaves are usually grayish green stained with purple red and deep purple on the reverse side. They are either cordate with dentate margins. (Hemigraphis Colorata) or elliptical with highly puckered leaf blades (Hemigraphis Colorata Var Exotica). Another variety Hemigraphis Colorata Var Exotica ‘Narrow Leaf’ has puckered leaf blades, but narrower than that of Hemigraphis Colorata Var Exotica Var Exotica. The leaves of Hemigraphis Repanda is linearly lanceolate with toothed margins. Hemigraphis Specis Mini a dwarf variety of Hemigraphis with small egg shaped leaves which are about 2 CM long and 1.5 CM broad. Another form, Hemigraphis species has the leaves almost similar to that of Hemigraphis Species Mini, but are red in color. All these species are prostrate growing ones with indefinite spread. They can thrive in shaded areas, particularly in the humid environment of a terrarium.
